Oceanside, CA and Nearby Southern California Attractions

These are some of the many, many attractions all along our Southern California coastline, and all within an hour's drive from your door:

Oceanside Pier — is a historic monument and at 1,942 feet it remains one of the longest wooden construction piers on the West Coast. Young and old, fisherman and surfer, visitors and residents, all mingle and many stop for a bite to eat at Ruby’s diner (a fifties-style hamburger & shake joint) located at the very end of the pier. No fishing license is required to fish off of the pier. Walk to it along the beach - it's only 7 blocks north of the condo.

Oceanside Harbor — offers restaurants, picnic tables, a village of shops, eateries, and a lighthouse. You can depart for a day of sport-fishing, sailing, whale watching, or twilight cocktail or dinner cruises. Helgren’s Sportfishing is located at 315 Harbor Drive South, (760) 722-2133.

Mission San Luis Rey — the “King of Missions” is located less than 5 miles away. Founded in 1798, the mission is one of the most architecturally impressive of the California missions.

California Surf Museum — learn about the history of surfing and the heritage of the surfing lifestyle. The museum is located right here in Oceanside at 223 North Coast Highway.

Looking south …

The Beach Cities — some great days of sightseeing can be had just by driving south along historic California Highway 101. As you meander down this old, scenic coast highway, it will take you through Oceanside, Carlsbad, Leucadia, Encinitas, and Solana Beach. These quintessential beach towns offer coffee shops, boutiques, surf shops, antique shops, music stores, eateries galore, coastline views, friendly locals, and much, much more! A little further south and you’re where the turf meets the surf in old Del Mar. The racing season is an exciting time in Del Mar and it runs from early July through late September. Plenty of good food and upscale shopping can be found in the village of Del Mar. Continue south to a breathtaking view of Torrey Pines State Beach and the cliffs of Torrey Pines State Park. You can visit the nature center at Torrey Pines and hike down some very cool trails to incredible ocean views along the bluffs. These trails abut the beautiful Torrey Pines Golf Course. As you head further south you’ll come to La Jolla where divers, snorkelers, and kyackers revel along the La Jolla Cove and La Jolla Shores beach. Many more great restaurants and shops will lure you in when you visit this lovely seaside community. Another attraction here is the Birch Aquarium — for sea lovers and nature enthusiasts, this is a worthwhile stop! You’ll have to venture back out onto I-5 south now for a taste of Mexico this side of the border. Take the Old Town Avenue exit and enjoy a south of the border experience in Old Town. Trolley tours are available, or park and walk around this quaint old west style town. Relax at one of the many restaurants offering authentic Mexican cuisine, refreshing margaritas, and talented mariaches. Old Town is fun for all ages and has a never-ending repertoire of theater productions at The Old Town Theater that are sure to make you laugh!
